The 2018 Can-Am finals is coming down to the final weekend to decide its champion.
The Redhawks took the first two games and were looking to take a control of the seven game series. But the first place Tuscarora Tomahawks were up to the challenge and took both games this weekend.
The Redhawks traveled to Tuscarora where the home town team turned the momentum around with a 14-4 dominating Game 3 win. Assistant captain Lee Nanticoke tallied all four goals for the Redhawks.
On Sunday, Game 4 returned to Onondaga for a great game which the Tomahawks coming out on top, 9-8.
Lee Nanticoke opened up the scoring on the Redhawks second offensive possession for a 1-0. The Tomahawks then tallied 2 straight goals of their own before Kroy Arnold scored on a breakaway goal and Chris Laurita scored with an outside blast of his own giving the Redhawks a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period.
The Second period saw the Tomahawks score two quick goals of their own before most fans made it back to their seats from the Power Play Cafe. The visitors added another goal and were looking to add more as they had a Redhawk defender in the box when Chris Laurita beat the Tomahawks down the floor for a shorthanded goal making it 5-4 Tuscarora. The period ended when the Tuscarora keeper deflected the ball into the corner where a scrum ensured which Redhawk Korie Halftown came out of the pile and dove across the crease to tie the game at 5.
The third period saw Redhawk keeper Ross Bucktooth and the Tomahawk goalie keep the score knotted at 5 through the first 10 minutes of the third. The visitors scored first only to be followed by a fast break goal by Korie Halftown after a nifty pass from defense man Bill O’Brian. Tuscarora took the lead again only to have Redhawk Leroy Halftown tie it again at 8. The Redhawk offense created great ball movement and scoring chances but the Tomahawk net-minder was up to the task. The visitors solved Ross Bucktooth with 26 seconds to play to take game 4 and tie the series at two games a piece.
Next weekend we will crown a Can-Am champion.
