Onondaga vs Newtown
In the first game of the season, Newtown came to the Onondaga to open league play. The large crowd of over a thousand fans saw the REDHAWKS open the scoring with 4 goals and the momentum on their side for the first period. Newtown then ended a very spirited and hard fought first period with a goal of their own.
The second period saw a major momentum shift as Newtown scored 9 goals in the period to Onondaga’s 4. The second period score was 10 to 8 to set the stage for an exciting third period.
The third period saw the REDHAWKS to only tally one goal as Newtown added 3. Newtown took the first of the four game series with the REDHAWKS with a 13-9 win.

Onondaga AT Niagara
The REDHAWKS’ second game sent them traveling to play the Niagara Hawks. The Hawks scored the first goal of the game just seconds into the first period. Onondaga was then able to tie, then take the lead by the end of the first period with the score 4-3.
The second and third periods saw the continued back and forth play by both teams as teams traded goals. Unfortunately, the REDHAWKS was called for a rash of penalties which led to Onondaga playing 1 man and 2 men short trying to “kill” double minor and major penalties for most of the second and third period. The result was a Niagara Hawks win 14-9.

Onondaga vs Tonawanda
The REDHAWKS recorded their first win of the season in a resounding manner. From the onset, Onondaga controlled the tempo and kept the ball in their opponent’s side of the floor for most of the night. The REDHAWKS scored first and often in the first period and opened up a 12 goal lead after the first period.
Tending goal for the first time this season and seeing action since moving up from Junior ball was Jeff Powless. Jeff a junior attending college at Bucknell University kept the Braves at bay stopping all shots he faced before turning over the goal-tending duties to Kent Lyons in the middle of the second period.
The REDHAWKS retained their steady play throughout the night by again scoring 12 goals in the second and finishing off the third period with 8 tallies. The REDHAWKS were paced by the scoring of Ed Shenadoah with 7 goals and 4 assists and Al Jones talling 5 goals and 5 assists. The Braves added a goal of their own in the third period to make the final score, 30-1.

Onondaga AT Pinewoods
The REDHAWKS made it to .500 mark with a 16-3 win against the Pinewoods Smoke. Off of the opening draw, Pinewoods took the loose ball and scored just seconds into the game. This would turn out to be Pinewoods only lead of the game as the REDHAWKS took control of the action.
Jeff Powless and Jim Campbell combined for superior goaltending by shutting down the Pinewoods scorers and only allowing two more goals and making 65 saves in the remaining 59:45 minutes of action.
Coach Barry Powless was pleased to see the team put forth a sold 60 minutes of intense, focused play. Even when the game was no longer in doubt, the REDHAWKS continued to move the ball and cross-check on defence. While the Pinewood Smoke accumulated 50 minutes in penalties, Onondaga was able to put 7 goals in the first, 4 more in the second and finally 5 goals in the third period.
The REDHAWKS were also glad to see the return of Ron Cogan to action as he helped anchor a solid defensive effort. The REDHAWKS were lead in scoring by Gewas Schindler with 1 goal and 7 asssists and Murray Stout with 2 goals and 4 assists.

Onondaga AT Newtown
Onondaga closed out their western weekend tour with an exciting 11-10 over the Newtown Golden Eagles on Sunday riding a three game winning streek. The REDHAWKS started the game very fast with 5 quick goals and after the first period the REDHAWKS found themselves with a 5-1 lead.
The second period saw the Golden Eagles make a goal tending change and also rougher play. The second period saw many man-up opportunities for both squads. Brandy Gibson and Rodney Redeye did a superb job in sutting down the outside shooters of Newtown and getting the loose balls. Eventually, the shots began to fall for Newtown as they closed within one at the close of the second period with the REDHAWKS leading 6-5.
The third period saw the continued back and forth play. Both teams were finding their offensive rhythm and were putting quality shots on cage with both goalies making quality saves. Newtown then surged ahead of Onondaga for a 7-6 lead only for the game to be tied by a Murray Stout goal. The game remained tight as Al Jones fired a low blast past the Newtown defenders for a 10-9 lead. Newtown fought back with a goal of their own before a goal by Art Powless gave Onondaga the lead and a man on opportunity with only 61 seconds to play. Newtown picked up the loose ball and called timeout to set up their last play to tie the game. Rodney Redeye was up to the challenge as he stripped the Newtown ball-carrier as the time expired on the game clock.
Onondaga was lead in scoring by Art Powless with 3 goals and 2 assists and Gewas Schindler with 2 goals and 3 assists.

Onondaga vs Niagara
Onondaga came into tonight’s game looking to extend their three game winning streak only to see it end with a 13-10 defeat to the league leading Niagara Hawks in front of a crowd of 800. The first period saw the REDHAWKS come out and pressure the ball offensively and defensively. A beautiful shorthanded goal by Al Jones and a dodging goal by Neal Powless helped build this lead as the Niagara Hawk goaltender as well as Onondaga goalie Jeff Powless stopped many shots. The first period saw the REDHAWKS holding onto a two goal lead as the first period concluded early due to a HAWK injury.
The second period of this game turned to oddly similar turn as the REDHAWKS began their march to the penalty box. Jeff did an admirable job turning away shot after shot but Niagara ended the second period with a three-goal lead.
In the opening seconds of the third period, Niagara scored a goal and extended their lead to three goals. Onondaga REDHAWK Murray Stout appeared to fake the Niagara goalie to his knees before firing the ball into the empty net. The goal was nullified as the ball rested on the outside of the net. After play was stopped a few minutes later, the referees fixed the whole but did not allow the goal. Then the parade to the box continued for the REDHAWKS as Onondaga made a goalie change to Joe Solomon to change momentum. The frustration boiled over as a few fights broke out as Neal and Ed Shenadoah ended the waning moments of the third period to close out the scoring for the REDHAWKS.

Onondaga vs Pinewoods
Onondaga came into tonight’s game looking to keep pace with the Niagara Hawks and the Newtown Golden Eagles with a win. From the onset of Friday nights game, Onondaga shooters were finding their way to the goal often. Early goals by Ed Shenadoah , JD Jones and Gewas Schindler allowed goal tender Jeff Powless some cushion to work with.
The Pinewood Smoke was never able to mount a rally as the REDHAWKS were able to control the action on both ends of the floor.

Onondaga AT Tonawanda
Onondaga traveled to Tonawanda to battle the Braves on a beautiful sunny day. The atmosphere was great of some ol’ time outdoor lacrosse. Onondaga got on track early with goals by Gewas Schindler, Al Jones and Dustin Hill. Jeff Powless continued his solid play from the previous evening holding the Braves to only 2 gaols in the first period.
The second and third period saw many of the REDHAWK shots ring of the posts or nulified due to crease violations. The REDHAWKS new that the bounce was on their side when Brad Powless scooped up a loose ball and fired a lefty shot. The ball hit the chicken wire behind the goal, bounced toward the Tonawanda goal keeper, hit the goal keeper, and rolled in.

Onondaga vs Newtown
Saturday saw the Newtown Golden Eagles loose to Onondaga 15-10. Despite not having the services of star forward Gewas Schindler who was serving out his one game suspension for arguing a call, the REDHAWKS were up to the task. Leading the way for the REDHAWKS was Neal Powless and Murray Stout. Jeff Powless did a steady job of turning away the Newtown shots.

Onondaga vs Tonawanda
On Sunday the game was clean, fast and physical. The visiting Tonawanda team played well but could not keep up with the REDHAWKS who were on a roll after their big win the night before. The first ended with the REDHAWKS holding on to a 7 to 0 advantage. The rest of the game proceeded much like the first with the REDHAWKS taking control of the game. The REDHAWKS came out of the game with a win by the score of 19 to 3. Joe Solomon was the starter in the goal. Onondaga was lead by Murray Stout who had a great game with 4 goals and 6 assists and JD Jones had 4 goals and 4 assists.

Onondaga AT Pinewoods
Saturday night saw the REDHAWKS play the Pinewood Smoke and earn a 10-4 win. Joe Solomon set the tone with a first period shut out.
The REDHAWKS played steady lacrosse throughout and was paced by Ed Shenadoah, Percy Shenandoah and Murray Stout.

Onondaga AT Niagara
Sunday, Onondaga finished their 2nd away game swing with an impressive 11-7 victory over the Niagara Hawks. Both teams started out the game with lots of intensity but it wasn’t until 13:41 of the first period when rookie Ben Shenandoah was able to beat the goal-tender off of a beautiful feed by Al Jones. Then the REDHAWKS continued their all-around defensive and offensive effort with goals by Al Jones, Gewas Schindler, and a short-handed goal by Neal Powless. The defensive effort was led by great goal-tending by Jeff Powless.
The second period saw the REDHAWKS continue with momentum on their side as Neal and Gewas added their second goals of the game before the Niagara Hawks scored their first goal 27 minutes into the action. Gewas then answered a Niagara rally with his third goalto end the period 7-4.
The third period saw the REDHAWKS build their lead to 10-5 with goals by Neal, Gewas, and Al Jones. Murray Stout then closed out the scoring for Onondaga as Niagara added a couple late goals. Next Saturday, The REDHAWKS will be hosting the same Niagara team which looks to be a very exciting game.

Onondaga VS Niagara
A large crowd on Saturday night saw the Onondaga REDHAWKS take on the visiting Niagara Hawks in Can-Am play and earn a 9-7 win. Six days earlier the REDHAWKS defeated the Hawks on their home floor by taking a 4-0 first period lead. The Hawks therefore followed that formula by jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead of their own. Their goaltending was up to all REDHAWK challengers and the usually fast starting Onondaga team was shut out for the first time this season.
The second period saw the REDHAWKS begin to match the intensity and hustle of the visiting Hawks as Onondaga began to win loose balls and gain some extra possessions to put more pressure on the Niagara goal-tender. The defense was also picking up its play as defenseman Ron Cogan and goalie Jeff Powless lead the way for the home team It was long before Ed Shenandoah lead the way in a three goal Onondaga rally with a beautiful goal in traffic. Brad Jones scored two minutes later and the third and final goal of the period was scored by Neal Powless. The second period ended with Niagara holding onto a 5-3 advantage.
The fans sensed the increased intensity of both clubs as the third period began. The action was faced paced as the REDHAWKS began to gain on the visitors with goals by Ed Shenandoah after four minutes into the third period. With just over six minutes remaining in the game, the crowd exploded as Gewas Schindler tied the game with a beautiful individual effort. Niagara came right back a minute and a half later with their final goal of the period. Two minutes later the crowd was back on their feet when Al Jones tied the game with his first goal of the game. After a few time outs and quality saves by both net-minders, the game was sent to a 10 minute overtime session.
The over-time period saw the Onondaga defense step up their game up a notch as they checked the Hawks into outside shots and gobbled up the loose balls. The defensemen were also pressuring the ball up the floor and taking fast break shots. Vernon Abrams broke the tie four minutes into the overtime period and fellow defensemen Wewoka Shenandoah added a fast break goal of his own for the game winner with four minutes remaining in the game. The REDHAWKS took a 8-6 lead. After Niagara’s seventh goal, Al Jones closed out all scoring beating the goal-tender for his second goal in the game just before the final buzzer.
The REDHAWKS wish the players of the Iroquois Nationals all the best as they travel to Australia to compete in the World Games. Onondaga AT Tonawanda
In his 24th season of senior ball, Barry Powless helped contribute to the REDHAWKS 8th consecutive win over the Tonawanda Braves 7-4. Dustin Hill opened the scoring moments into the first period. Barry then scored the second of the game with a tricky no-look-backhanded shot that found its way through the legs goaltender. The REDHAWKS continued to apply pressure to the Tonawanda goalkeeper extending their lead to 4-0 at the end of the first period with goals by Kevin Powless and Murray Stout.
The heat was the biggest foe for the visiting REDHAWKS as the tempo slowed down on both sides. As the thermometer edged toward 90, Tonawanda was able to break out with a few goals of their own against goaltender Jeff Powless. Dustin closed out the second with his second goal of the game, the winner, for a 5-3 REDHAWK lead.
The rejuvenated REDHAWKS picked up the pace in the third and had numerous scoring chances. Onondaga was able to put two goals past the Tonawanda net-timer by Barry Powless and Nelson Jones for a 7-4 win. At the ready for action was assistant coach Alf Jacques to aid in goal tending duties.

Onondaga AT Newtown
In their last regular season meeting, Newtown was able to pullout a 7-8 overtime victory. Onondaga was looking to extend their winning streak without nine of their players who are proudly representing the Iroquois Nationals in Perth Australia.
The first period saw both teams provide a fast paced exciting lacrosse. Both goalies held their own and it wasn’t until 13 minutes into the first before Newtown was able to beat Onondaga goal tender Jeff Powless. Newtown scored their second goal before Barry Powless was able to put a beautiful bounce shot over the shoulder of the Newtown goalie.
Kevin Powless started the scoring early in the second period with another beautiful outside shot that found the back of the net to tie the game at 2. The REDHAWKS then took a 3-2 lead with a goal by Ben Shenandoah in traffic. Newtown knotted up the score at 3 and took a one-goal lead before Barry Powless beat the goalie to tie it up at 4. In the closing seconds of the second period, Newtown was able to add another goal and a 5-4 lead.
The third period found both teams battling for loose alls and valuable possessions. Goaltender Jeff Powless continued his stellar performance stopping many outside, inside and fast break opportunities. It wasn’t until 12 minutes into the third period before Newtown added another goal to lead 6-4. After the ensuing face-off Brandon Coulon picked up the loose ball and ran over a Newtown defender before adding a REDHAWK goal to cut the Newtown lead to 6-5. A minute later Newtown stretched their lead to 2 and put the pressure on the REDHAWKS. After more heated play on both sides, Wewoka Shenandoah picked up a loose ball of his own and beat the Newtown defenders and faked the goalie to his knees before putting his shot over his shoulder. Onondaga continued to press the action and with 60 seconds remaining in regulation, Kevin Powless fired a low blast to tie the game. On the ensuing face-off, Newtown was called for a high-sticking penalty and Onondaga went on the power play for the remaining 45 seconds. Unfortunately, the REDHAWK power play was unable to capitalize as the game went to overtime.
Overtime saw both teams digging deep as they battled each other and the heat. The REDHAWKS had scoring opportunities but it was Newtown who scored first with 3 minutes to go in overtime. Then in the waning seconds of the overtime, Onondaga pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. The shots came and the REDHAWKS picked up the loose balls and Kevin Powless’ shot rang off the post. Newtown was then able to retain possession and ran out the remaining 15 seconds of play.
The REDHAWKS will now close out the regular season at home as they get ready for the playoffs against Pinewoods.

Onondaga vs Pinewoods
Onondaga closed out its regular season with a 11-5 win over the visiting Pinewoods Smoke. The REDHAWKS never trailed as Onondaga played with a short bench against a full Pinewoods roster as they were tuning up for the playoffs.
Jeff Powless made sure there was no idea of an upset as he continuously closed the door on the Pinewood shooters. Kevin Powless 4-3 and Brad Jones 3-0 both put in enough offense to provide REDHAWKS the win. Rory Thorpe, Jason Mohawk, Woke Shenandoah, and Percy Shenandoah all added single tallies.
Onondaga is now looking forward to the playoffs. Onondaga finishes second to Newtown and ahead of Niagara.
