This past weekend the Redhawks ended their regular season with two victories securing first place in the Eastern Division. The first place title allows the Redhawks to sit and watch the winless Tonawanda Braves face off against the second place Pinewoods Smoke in the first round of the Eastern playoff series.
Looking ahead, The Redhawks will most likely face second place Pinewoods at Tsha’HonNonyendakwha on Friday July 23. This best of 5 series faces a young promising Pinewoods team. The Smoke defeated the Redhawks in the opening game of the season. since that meeting, the Redhawks have defeated the Smoke by a combined score of 55-25. The Redhawks look to continue the scoring pressure with Ed SHenandoah’s 64 pts., Peter Benedict’s 61 pts. and Dustin Hill’s 45 pts.
In the Western Division, the Mohawk Storm will face off against Niagara Hawks in the opening round of the playoffs. Newtown earned first place with a season ending win against the Mohawk Storm. Newtown is the hottest team in the league riding an 11 game winning streak. They look to continue their streak against the winner of the Storm/Hawk series.
The Redhawks had a tough time against Western Division foes this season. The Redhawks were swept by the Mohawk Storm and earned a split against the Newtown Golden Eagles and the Niagara Hawks. Back in June, the Redhawks handed Newtown its last regular season loss with a supurb performance by goaltender Jim Campbell’s 70+ save performance. Onondaga hopes to reverse this trend against Western Divsion foes if they are able to represent the Eastern Division in the Can-Am Championship series beginning on August 6th
