Congratulations to our nation lacrosse players for earning NLL and NJCC championships over this past weekend.
Saturday saw the Rochester Knighthawks and our own Marshall Abrams bring home the NLL championship with a 13-11 win over the Arizona Sting. Marshall has been an integral part of the K-Hawk defense on a well rounded team. The Knighthawks ended the season with a 14-2 mark which topped a very tough Eastern division in the MLL. Entering the postseason, the 2007 Knighthawks were favored to make it to the finals and they didn’t disappoint as they won 15 games in a row to put their stamp as champions of the 2007 season. This is the second title for Rochester. In 1997 two other eel clan members Neal and Coach Barry Powless won their championship with a win over the Buffalo Bandits.
On Sunday, the Onondaga Community College repeated as Junior College National Champions with a resounding 25-14 win over Nassau CC. The OCC Lazers under Coach Wilbur have been considered unstoppable as the team consistently put forth staggering offensive numbers while shutting down teams on the offensive end. In the past two championship seasons, the Lazers have won 33 straight games including the 15-0 mark for the 2007 season. Congratulations to Ross Bucktooth, Wade Bucktooth, Tyler Hill, Lee Nanticoke, Jeremy Thompson and Jerome Thompson for a great season.
We also must congratulate Cody Jamieson (offensive MVP), Kent Squires-Hill and Holden Vise from Ohsweken, Logan Kane from Kahnawake, Lee Thomas from Akwesasne, and Isaiah Kicknosway – Potawatomi, for their outstanding efforts on the lacrosse field.
Hats off to Marshall, Ross,Wade, Tyler, Lee, Jeremy, Jerome, Cody, Kent, Holden, Logan, and Lee T., and Isaiah for a great start to the 2007 lacrosse season!
