Day One of Nations Cup

September 18, 2010 By Redhawks Lax

Day 1 of the 2010 Nations Cup did not disappoint.  From 4pm to 10pm the arena was hoppin’ with lacrosse action.

Game 1 saw the first ever appearance of the North Shore Indians from Vancouver BC in Nations Cup action. Nations Cup 2010 - Photo by J. Powless Unfortunately for North Shore, they ran into a Seneca team hitting on cylinders.  The Seneca 32’s Chris Jimerson opened the scoring just 3:30 minutes into the game.  The Seneca team put the tournament on notice as a team to be reckoned with 17 straight goals before North Shore was able to tally their first goal late in the third.  The Seneca’s were led by Mike Steven’s 3 goal and 4 assists on their way to a 21-2 victory.

Game 2 was Ohsweken defeat Caughnawaga 21-2.  Ohsweken located out of Six Nations Ontario always brings a talented team (or two).  With NLLers Roger Vyse, Craig Point, leading the way, Ohsweken opened up the scoring just 1 minute and 33 seconds into the game with a goal by Randy Staats.  Just 28 seconds later, Vaughn Harris scored the first of his 4 goals on his way to an 8 point effort.  But Ohsweken’s leading scorer Kedo Hill tallied 5 goals and 4 assists to power the potent offense.

Game 3 saw the Onondaga Redhawks earn its first win since hoisting the Presidents Cup in Vancouver over Tuscarora 14-6.  The hometown Redhawks didn’t disappoint as Wade Bucktooth tallied the first goal of the game just 1 minute and 29 seconds into the contest with a pass from Redhawk veteran Gewas Schindler.  The Redhawks continued their formula of solid goaltending from Ross Bucktooth and a balanced attack as 9 Redhawks scored in the win.  Brett Bucktooth, Wade Bucktooth, and Tyler Hill all scored 3 goals and an assist.  Tuscarora’s coach Darris Kilgor (of the Buffalo Bandits) was led by Aaron Printup and Gehnew Printup both tallying 2 goals a piece.

Game 4 saw the Onondaga Porch Dwellers fall to the Frog Pond Maulers 8 to 12.  The Porch Dwellers featured all 4 Thompson brothers; Jeremy, Jerome, Miles, and Lyle as well as James Cathers.  Miles Thompson scored the first two goals of the contest for an early Porch Dweller lead.  Frog Pond (the second talented team from Six Nations Ontario) fought back with goals by Jeremy Johns and former Toronto Rock Kim Squire.  With the game tied at 6 to start the third period, Frog Pond was led by Wade Van Every and Kyle Isaacs’ 2 goals a piece for a Mauler win.

Saturday, the Nation’s Cup begins with a lacrosse action beginning at 8am with the Redhawks facing the Seneca 32’s in a familiar matchup between the two lacrosse clubs.
