Friendship Junior Box Lacrosse Tournament

The Onondaga Redhawks Intermediate team competed in the 2010 Haudenosaunee/Connecticut Friendship Junior Box Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday March 27th….

 

It was hosted by the SNI Cattaragus Recreation Department at the Gilbert Lay Memorial Arena in Newtown.  In addition to the Redhawks were Haudenosaunee teams from Tuscarora, Newtown (Midgets and Intermediate), and the “Catt-Rez Marauders.”  We faced off against Connecticut teams from Suffield and Northwest Catholic High School.  

 

The Redhawks were young, with mostly midget players, and we had a short bench of only about 12—but we prevailed in both our games.  The Connecticut teams were mostly seniors and had about 25 players per team.  They learned a lot of things about box lacrosse and there was a marked improvement in the Connecticut teams throughout the day.  

 

As you can see from the photo, however, it was a friendship festival indeed with all who attended feeling good about the experience.  It’s a good idea that took place at a good time of the season. Several coaches thought that we could next have a tournament down in Connecticut or Onondaga. But either way friendships were made and plans are brewing for next year.
