The two teams from Six Nations swept the morning action as both teams qualified for the gold medal game at 3:35 today at Tsha Honnonyendakwha.
The morning game saw the Frog Pond Maulers defeat the host Redhawks 15 to 8. The Redhawks who entered the game with a short bench could not keep up with the Maulers who ran an effective offense and capitalived on numerous fast break opportunities. Redhawk Neal Powless scored an acrobatic goal to put the Redhawks on the board. Unfortuneatly that goal came in the second period after the Maulers built an 8-0 lead. Gewas Schindler, Dewey Porter, Grant Bucktooth and Neal added more goals in the third but it was not enough as Frog Pond moves on.
The second semi-final saw The Seneca 32’s and the undefeated Ohsweken Aces meet up in a very exciting contest. The Senecas came out smokin with a quick goal. The 32’s added a few more tallies as the Aces were asessed a major penalty. In building their lead, the Senecas played hard nosed d and goaltender Clint Jones passed numerous long passes for fast break opporttunities for a 4-2 first period lead. The second period saw the awakening of Ace’s forward Cody Jamieson. Cody found the back of the net 3 times in a row as Ohsweken took a 5-4 lead on their way to a 6 to 5 second period lead. The final period saw the Aces limit the 32’s fast break chances and held the Senecas to earn a 10-6 win.
