Game 2
The second game of the series went to the visiting Newtown Golden Eagles 14-11. The loss was their first loss on their home floor of the 2003 season. Newtown scored first but was answered by a diving outside shot by Dustin Hill. The visitors took advantage of special teams play as Newtown scored on 4 man short goals (6 for the game) as well as capitalizing on their power play opportunities. By the end of the first period, the Redhawks found themselves in a 7-3 hole.
The Redhawks began the second period playing better ball but the bounces were going Newtown’s way and they found the net twice for a 9-3 lead. Then Redhawk Bradley Powless beat the Newtown goaltender twice off of feeds from Dave Stout and AJ Bucktooth to bring the crowd back into the game. The end of the second period saw Newtown holding an 11-5 lead.
The third period saw the Redhawks bounce back as brothers Percy and Ed Shenandoah each scored. That was followed by a goal by Eric Carlsen to cut into the Newtown lead. But timely goals allowed Newtown to stay ahead as Neal Powless, Kevin Powless and Dustin Hill closed out the scoring.
The Redhawks were lead by Dustin Hill (2-1), Ed Shenandoah (1-2), Ron Cogan (1-2), Neal Powless (0-3), Art Powless (0-3), Kevin Powless (2-0), Brad Powless (2-0), Percy Shenandoah (2-0), Eric Carlsen (1-1), Jim Campbell (0-2), and single assists from Chet Thomas, AJ Bucktooth, David Stout, and Murray Stout.
The series now shifts to Cattaraugus as the Redhawks travel to play two games at Newtown Friday night at 8 and Saturday at 4pm. Then the Redhawks will travel home on Sunday to play Game 5 at 5pm.
