The Onondaga Old Sticks traveled to Magog, Quebec to play in a 4 team tournament. Onondaga played its first game sat. vs. Ottawa and came up short losing 13-6. The next game was vs. Kahnawake. With the help of 3 players from Akwesasne we won a close game which we lead most of the time by score of 5-4. Sunday morning was against host Magog. Trailing 5-1 and 6-2 after the 2nd period, the team was able to tie the score 3 times. In the end Magog won 10-9. Magog and Onondaga played each again for the Bronze Medal- team records being 1 win and 2 losses. Kahnawake and Ottawa were both at 2 wins and 1 loss.
Onondaga players took notice of Magog’s team prior to the face-off. It seemed they had more players. My count was 14 runners and a goalie. We had 12 runners and 2 goalies. The game for the medal was won by Onondaga. Magog played Onondaga tough. Their defense at times was always there. We believe our good stick work and passing helped us relieve the pressure. We scored first and were able to add to the score when they would score. It was only in the third that we were able to get 3 goals up. Greg Farmer scored in the first minute of the 3rd. It did give us some breathing room yet Magog never let up. Playing lacrosse in Magog was a lot of fun. All players received medals for our 3rd place finish.
