Coquitlam, BC – The Redhawks dominated the Outlawz from start to finish to earn a 16-7 victory.
Wade Bucktooth got the scoring going early on an Onondaga’s first possession after a Jeremy Thompson. Hiana Thompson quickly followed for a 2 goal lead.
An early indicator of how the game would play out was after two successive high stick calls. The Redhawks were two men down. The Outlawz went on the power play. They were only to get one shot off on goal tender Edmund Cathers. The Redhawks gathered the loose ball and carried onto the Akwesasne offensive zone. Out of respect of the Onondaga offense, the Outlawz did not pressure the Redhawks for the remaining 3:35 minutes of their man up. As the penalties expired, Miles Thompson took the opportunity to head to the goal to score making it 3-0.
After a second goal by Hiana, Neal Powless got on the board with two quick fast break goals extending the Redhawk lead to 6-0 all before Akwesasne scored to end the period 6-1.
The second period saw the Redhawk turn up the offensive firepower starting with two man-up goals by Pete Benedict and Neal Powless. Lyle Thompson took a loose ball by goal keeper Edmund Cathers and raced down the floor beating the Outlawz defenders and the goalie for a 9-2 lead. The end of the second period saw more goals, Lyle with an outside blast, Hiana added 2 tallies, Wade scored his second, and Jeremy muscled his way inside to score to finish the second period with the Redhawks leading by 10, 14 to 4.
The third period saw the Redhawks play out the game by scoring only one goal while conserving energy for Wednesday. Jeremy Thompson was awarded player of the game honors for his all-around effort at the faceoff circle. The Redhawks will play Kahnawake in the morning and the host Tri-City at night.
