The Redhawks hosted Newtown and earned a 11-9 victory. The Sunday afternoon game saw the Redhawks pressure the visiting Golden Eagles early. The Redhawks were able to score early to build a 3-0 lead before the Redhawks were called an a series of infractions. That allowed the Newtown power play to post two goals of their own. Sandwichwed between those two goals was a beautiful shorthanded goal by Murray Stout ending the first period at 4-2.
The second period continued with both sides pushing the ball into the offensive zone. Newtown began to have some fast break opportunities but Jim Campbell stopped many of those attemps. Meanwhile Brandy Gibson and Eric Carlsen were pushing the ball up from the defensive end of the floor creating fast breaks of their own. Soon the Redhawks had built a 8-5 advantage before a series of Newtown power play goals cut the lead to one before Kevin Powless netted an outside shot to close off the scoring in the second at 9-7
The final period saw both defenses tighten down as the checks were heavy on both sides. Newtown again closed the gap to one before Percy Shenandoah was able to net the Redhawks 10th goal extending the lead back to two. After more heavy play Newtown again closed the gap to one before a 3-2 fastbreak goal by Ed Shenandoah sealed the win.
The Redhawks had balanced scoring in the victory. Leading the was was Murray Stout (3-2), Kevin Powless (2-1), Art Powless (2-1), Ed Shenandoah 1-2, Dustin Hill (1-1), and Neal Powless with (1-1). Up next for the Redhawks is a home game with the Mohawk Storm.
