The Onondaga Redhawks defeated the visiting Niagara Hawks Saturday 17-5. The Hawks found themselves in a hole very quickly as Ed Shenandoah scored in the opening seconds of play. Then the outstanding Redhawk defense of Vernon Abrams, Ron Cogan, Brandy Gibson, Eric Carlsen and Chet Thomas pressured the Hawk offence into poor shot opportunities. When the Hawks did get an opportunity to score, goal tender Jim Campbell denied their chances. By the close of the first period, the Redhawks were winning the chase to the loose balls and had a 5-1 lead.
The second period began with a goal in the opening seconds by Percy Shenandoah and another by Kevin Powless stretched the Redhawk lead to 7-1. Immediately after a Hawk tally, Brad Powless got a goal off of a beautiful feed by AJ Bucktooth. In the next possession, Murray Stout split three defenders to score his first of his three to stop any hope of a Hawk rally. The second period ended with the Redhawks extending their lead to 11-3.
The third period saw both teams trade a pair of goals before the Redhawk defense stopped all Niagara scoring chances. The Redhawks then scored 4 more goals to finish off the scoring at 17-5.
The Redhawks had balanced scoring and were lead by Neal Powless (2-3), AJ Bucktooth (1-4), Dave Stout (1-4), Murray Stout (3-1), Ed Shenandoah (1-3), Percy Shenandoah (2-1), Kevin Powless (2-1), Brandy Gibson (1-1) and 1 goal scorers Eric Carlsen, Brad Powless, Art Powless and Zach Jones.
Up next for the Redhawks is their last regular season home game against Pinewoods Saturday and a trip to The Mohawk Storm on Sunday.
