Onondaga splits opening weekend action

The Redhawks lost the opening game of the season at Newtown, 18-10. The game saw a fast paced opening 10 minutes with many scoring chances on both sides. Then Newtown went on a spurt of unanswered goals to finish off the first period with a 8-1 lead. The Redhawks were able to mount a comeback and close the gap to 12-8 but Newtown was aable to pull away in the third.

Onondaga was paced by 2 goal scores Art Powless, Neal Powless, Ed Shenandoah, and Percy Shenandoah.

The Redhawks were able to turn it around against the visiting Tonawanda Braves 21-9 on Sunday. Onondaga’s fast break proved to be too much for Tonanwanda. Onondaga was paced by multiple goal scorers Art Powless, Kevin Powless, Percy Shenandoah, Dustin Hill, Murray Stout, Ed Shenandoah and Dave Stout. The game also featured a couple of firsts as Norman Powless recorded is first saves and Zack Jones scored his first goal.

Next Sunday the Redhawks will host the Six Nations Braves.

Record: 1-1.
