The Redhawks were only able to collect one win against Pinewoods 12-8 and a lost to the Storm 16-8. In the first game, Pinewoods, who is in a dogfight for the final playoff spot, came out and scoring in the opening moments of the first period. Then a series of 5 man down opportunities allowed the Smoke to tally 3 more goals. Luckily, the Redhawks were able to get a man down goal by Eric Carlen to close out the period trailing 4-2. The second period saw the defence stiffen and only allow Pinewoods a single goal. Meanwhile, Redhawk forward Neal Powless was able to post all 4 of the Redhawk goals. One goal was a beautiful 2 on 2 fast break with his brother Bradley seeting him up for his third goal. The final stanza saw the Redhawks hold off any Pinewoods rally as Vernon Abrams added an empty net goal to close out the game.
The Redhawks were unable to sweep both of their weekend games as they faced another team fighting for a playoff spot in the Mohawk Storm. Ironically, the Storm defeated the Redhawks 16-8 which was the same score the Redhawks defeated the Storm earlier in the year! Norm Powless got the nod in goal in his first start of the year. The Storm went out quickly and took a 4-0. The Redhawks were able to close the gap at the end of the first to 5-3. But the second period saw all of the bounces go the Storm’s way as they were able to post a 11-6 second period lead. With the game in hand the Storm and the Redhawks finished out the game with the Storm adding 5 tallies and the Redhawks adding 2. The REdhawks were lead by AJ Bucktooth (2-1), Art Powless (2-1), Murray Stout (2-0), Ron Cogan (1-1), Eric CArlesen (1-1), and Ed Shenandoah (1-0). Next weekend the Redhawks will close out the regular season at the Six Nation Braves on Sunday.
