The Redhawks traveled out to Niagara as both teams battled to avoid their second loss of the season. But in the end it was Niagara who was handed their second loss in a 11-8 decision to the Redhawks.
The last meeting between the two clubs was an emotional game 5, OT thriller, which the Redhawks prevailed to win the series. That same high level of play continued a year later. Both teams were pushing the tempo but it was Redhawks goalie Jim Campbell who came away with the most saves and a 4-2 lead at the end of the first period.
The second period saw the Redhawks seem to have a step on the Niagara Hawks. The Redhawks pressed the Hawks into turnovers and thanks to timely goals by Art Powless, Dave Stout, and Kevin Powless extended the lead to 7-2. The Hawks then finished out the period with a late goal to finish the second period with the Redhawks leading 7-3.
The third period saw the home team begin to gather loose balls and mount a comeback. But in the end, the Redhawks controlled play in the offensive zone and left Niagara with a 11-8 win.
Leading the Redhawks with 3 goal efforts were Dave Stout and Kevin Powless; Art Powless added 2 tallies, and Ed Shenandoah, Murray Stout and AJ Bucktooth each added one goal a piece.
Sunday saw the Redhawks end their 2003 series with Tonanwada with a 17-8 win. The blue skies above was a beautiful setting for an outdoor game. Goal tender Norman Powless lead the way for the Redhawks as the visitors posted their seventh straight win. The Redhawks were paced by Kevin Powless (2-5), AJ Bucktooth (1-5), Neal Powless (5-0), Ron Cogan (2-2), Murray Stout (1-3), Art Powless (2-1), Ed Shenandoah (1-2), Dave Stout (0-3), Dustin Hill (2-0) and Percy Shenandoah (1-1).
The win placed the Redhawks into first place and looking at another showdown with the Niagara Hawks this Saturday at the Onondaga Nation.
