The Onondaga Redhawks are the 2012 Can-Am Champions with a decisive 17-5 win over the Newtown Golden Eagles.
The Redhawks wasted little time building a quick 2 to 1 lead early in the first period. Goaltender Ross Bucktooth settled in and deflected all shots allowing the offense to build a 7 to 1 lead at the end of the first period.
The second period saw the Redhawks really open up the offense with quick passes and many beautifully assisted goals, many of the behind the back nauture. Leading the way for the Redhawks was Dewy Porter’s 4 goal and 3 assist effort.
“We moved the ball real well tonight,” said veteran Neal Powless who tallied 2 goals of his own. “When we moe the ball like that, we are a hard team to beat.”
That was evident to the 2 Newtown goaltenders who kept switching netminding duties trying to find a way to slow down the Redhawk shooters.
With the win, the Redhawks will be traveling to Alberta to compete for the President’s Cup which the team won in 2010.
“Its great to be going back and playing for the Cup,” said Powless. Powless first taste of the Presidents Cup was back in 1993 when as a rookie on the Redhawks and, traveled to British Colombia to compete against Canada’s best and on the 2010 team that brought the Cup home. “It would be great to bring the Cup back to Onondaga. If we play like we did tonight, we got a chance.”
Looks like to have a good chance indeed.
