Tuesday August 17, 2010, Burnaby, B.C. Day two of the Presidents Cup saw the Redhawks dominate the Miners 18-9 in their first game of the day.
Just seconds into the action, the Miners took the opening face and scored on Redhawk goalkeeper Ross Bucktooth. Their lead did not last very long as on the very next possession, Wade Bucktooth knotted the score at 1. The Redhawk offence then started to click as Tyler Hill gave the Redhawks 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish on a beautiful pick and roll. The first period saw the Redhawks out hustle the Miners to loose balls to in creating 2nd and 3rd offensive possessions which lead to goals by AJ Bucktooth, Brett Bucktooth, Jeremy Thompson and Dewey Porter in extending the Redhawk lead to 6-2 by the end of the first period.
The second period saw the Redhawk defense lead by Junior Buckthooth, Andy Spack, Buddy Bucktooth, and Grant Bucktooth take care of any hopes of a Miner rally by forcing long range outside shots. With the Miner offense in check, Murray Stout and Dustin Hill tallied on fast break goals while Wade Bucktooth added two tallies, Andy Spack, Dewey Porter, and Peter Benedict added goals of their own for a 13-5 Redhawk lead at the end of second period.
The final period saw the play get a bit rough on both ends. A loose ball scrum in the corner resulted in a 5 minute Redhawk penalty and a bloodied Miner. The result of the 5 minute penalty was a no Miner tallies and a goal by Tyler Hill and a fast break tally by Ryan Lewis. The 15 to 5 Redhawk lead brought goalie Spencer Lyons into the game. With 7 minutes remaining the Miners pulled their keeper and added 3 additional tallies while Dewey Porter, Drew Bucktooth, and Ron Cogan finished the Onondaga scoring for an 18-9 Redhawk win. For his defensive efforts Junior Bucktooth received Player of the Game honors. The Redhawks are now 2-0 heading into tonight’s game against Tri-City Bandits.
