The defending 2006 Can-Am Champs opened up the 2007 season with road game and a 10-12 OT loss to the last years runner up the Six Nations Sting.
Ron Cogan opened up the scoring for the 2007 season with a goal 48 seconds into the game to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead. With Chad Hill tending goal, Onondaga built a 4-2 1st period lead.
The second period began with rookie Spencer Lyons taking over goaltender duties and the team responded with 3 unanswered goals by Dwayne Porter, Murray Stout, & Dustin Hill building a 7-2 lead. The home Sting were then able to add 3 goals of their own before Dustin tallied again to close the second period with the visiting Redhawks holding an 8-5 lead.
The 3rd period saw the Sting score 2 straight goals to close the gap to 7-8 but Ryan Lewis beat the Sting goalie to bump the Redhawk lead back to 9-7. Ten seconds later the Sting responded with another score making it a tight 1 goal third period. Murray Stout then scored the Redhawks’ 10th and final goal with 3 minutes to play. The team battle through penalties and looked as though they were about to secure a tough road win at Six Nations. But the quick Sting shooters rallied and tied the game at 10 with 29 seconds to play!
In overtime, the Sting were able to 2 tallies to secure the opening season win for the home team. The Redhawks were lead by Dustin Hill (2g, 3a), Pete Benedict (1g, 4a), Ron Cogan (1g, 4a), AJ Bucktooth (2g, 2a), Ryan Lewis (2g, 1a), Dwayne Porter (1g, 2a), Murray Stout (2g), and Dave Stout (2a).
