The Redhawks wrapped up another successful regular season with two wins over the weekend bringing their regular season record to 13-1. With the win, The Redhawks have secured home court advantage throughout the playoffs to try to earn the Can-Am birth to the 2006 Presidents Cup in British Columbia.
On Saturday, the Redhawks traveled to Allegany and defeated the Arrows 17-8. Onondaga started out strong by outscoring the home team 15-4 by the end of the second period! With the game securly on hand, the penalty minutes for both teams accumulated. Onondaga was assessed 48 minutes in penalties while the Arrows were given 51 penalty minutes. With most of the third period being played by the specialty teams, the Arrows outscored the Redhawks 4 goals to 2.
Sunday’s action saw the Tonawanda Braves come to Tsha Honnonyendakwha where the Redhawks won 12 to 7. Goal tender Jeff Powless held the visiting Braves to a single tally for the first two periods as Onondaga scored 8 goals. Chad Hill then came in to tend goal as he ‘sealed the deal’ ensuring the Redawks home field throughout the 2006 playoffs.
The season also concluded with our own AJ Bucktooth winning the scoring tile with 76 points (35 goals, 41 assists). AJ won this years Can-Am scoring race over second place finisher Sandy Porter of Six Nations by 27 points (Sandy had 49 pts). Alson in the top 10 in scoreing was Pete Benedict 45 points (24 goals & 21 assists), Dustin Hill 45 points (20 goals & 25 assists) and Ed Shenandoah with 43 points (11 goals & 32 assists). A season review would not be complete without discussing the play of Jeff Powless and the defense holding the opposition to 7.6 goals per game. Jeff also lead the Can-Am goalies in points with 15.
