Game 1
The Redhawks hosted the first two games of the series and won 14-9 and 12-4. The Friday night game was highlighted by Kevin Powless scoring three of the first four goals of the game. That helped build a lead that they did not relinquish.
The second period saw the Storm close the gap to 6-4 on two early power-play goals. Then the Redhawks scored three straight goals, one a fast break man-short goal by Art Powless. That goal at the end of the second period made the score 9-4.
The final period saw both teams toss in 5 goals a piece in the steamy Tsha’HonNonyendakwha’ arena. The Redhawks were lead by Kevin Powless (4-2), Art Powless (3-1), Dave Stout (0-4), Neal Powless (2-1), Murray Stout (1-2), Ron Cogan (1-1), Ed Shenandoah (1-1), and Dustin Hill (1-1)
Game 2
The Saturday afternoon game was won by the hosts 12-4. The score does not indicate how close the game was early on. After the Redhawks took the early lead, the productive Storm power play allowed them the opportunity to stay close to the host team.
As the second period came to a close, the Storm was able to score to close the gap to 6-4. But the third period belonged to the Redhawk defense as they were able to shut out the Storm while netting six more Redhawk goals.
The Redhawks were led by Dave Stout (2-3), Murray Stout (3-0), Art Powless (1-2), Dustin Hill (1-2), Vern Abrams (1-2), Neal Powless (2-0), Ed Shenandoah (1-1) AJ Bucktooth (0-2), Kevin Powless (0-2) and Jim Campbell (0-2).
Game 3
The Sunday game saw the Redhawks travel out to Haggersville to take on the Storm on their home floor. After a very productive first period for the Redhawks, they led 6-3. Three of those 6 goals came when the Redhawks were a man short.
The second period saw a momentum shift as the host Storm was able to catch a few of the loose balls and continue to put pressure on the Redhawks defense. As the Storm close the gap and began to pressure the ball, the stick of goal tender Jim Campbell was knocked out out of his hands. The Storm picked up the ball, passed to an open player who shot on an open net only to be denied by a sliding Campbell. A second Storm player picked up the ball to shoot at the empty net and was denied, this time by an arm save by defenseman Ron Cogan! Later in the second, the Storm was able to beat Jim Campbell as the period came to a close tied at 8.
The final period saw the Storm score first only to have the Redhawks tie it at 9. Again the Storm was able to beat the defense to take a 10-9 lead with over 10 minutes to play. Neal Powless was then able to beat the Storm goal tender to tie at 10. After many great opportunities and saves by both goal tenders Art Powless scored the game winner with 6 minutes to play for an 11-10 Redhawk lead. In the waining minutes, the Storm pulled the goalie for an extra attacker but Vern Abrams was able to hit a streaking Murray Stout for an empty net goal with under a minute to play. The Redhawks were lead by Art Powless (4-1), Dave Stout (2-1), Ron Cogan (1-2), AJ Bucktooth (1-2), Kevin Powless (0-3), Murray Stout (2-0), Neal Powless (1-1), Vern Abrams (0-2), and Dustin Hill (0-2).
The series will resume again in Hagersville Friday night.
