The Redhawks traveled to Ohsweken to face the Six Nation Braves on Sunday and came away with a 17-7 victory. The victory over the Braves ensured that the Redhawks will have a first place seed for the upcoming Can-Am Championships beginning this weekend.
The Redhawks behind the goal tending of Jim Campbell jumped out the early lead with a goal by Percy Shenandoah 2 minutes into the first period. The Redhawks closed out the first period holding a 5-1 lead.
The second period began with Art Powless scoring 5 of the next 6 goals and diminishing any ideas of a Six Nation Brave’s comeback. The Redhawk offence was moving the ball well as all of the second period goals were assisted until Eric Carlsen took it the length of the floor to score a goal before the close of the second period extending the lead to 12-3.
The third period began like the first as Percy Shenandoah tossed in his second goal of the day. Quick ball movement left the Redhawks many one on one opportunities against the Brave net-minder. The Redhawks were paced by Art Powless (6-4), Neal Powless (1-5), Ron Cogan (2-3), Ed Shenandoah (2-3), Murray Stout (2-2) Percy Shenandoah (2-1) and single goal scorers Eric Carlsen and Shannon Booth.
