The Redhawks opened the second period with a goal by Peter Benedict off of a beautiful feed by Ed Shenandoah. Once again the closely contested game saw teams trading goals until the score was knotted at 5. Then the Redhawks were assessed a double minor penalty and the Newtown power play took advantage tallying two straight goals. Onondaga ended the second period scoring when former and recently traded Redhawk, Vern Abrams, scooped up a loose ball by the Newtown goal. Vern’s former teammates converged and checked Vern and the ball back into the crease, past the goal-line, to score again for the Redhawks!
The Redhawks used the momentum from the second period to score first to tie the game at 7. Then the defense and goaltending for both sides took over as neither team was able to score. Then Newtown was able to break through and score 3 quick unanswered goals. Peter Benedict and Gewas Schindler were able to bring the Redhawks to within one. But the Newtown defense was able to withstand the 6-5 offence at the end of the game to hold onto the victory.
