The Redhawks handed the visiting Mohawk Storm a 16-8 loss Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks controlled the game from the onset putting constant pressure on the Storm shooters. Ron Cogan, Brandy Gibson, Vernon Abrams and Eric Carlsen often made the Storm use the entire 30 before attemping a shot on goal. Meanwhile the offense was getting multiple scoring opportunities as the Redhawks were winning the race to the loose balls. The relatively penalty-free first period ended with the Redhawks holding a 5-2 advantge.
The Redhawks opened up the beginning of the second period with 3 quick goals. Murray Stout scored two off the draw and Veron Abrams did the same making the score 8-2 with 17:49 to play in the second. Jim Campbell continued to be strong in between the pipes only letting in two while the Redhawks added four more of their own to close out the second period holding a 12-4 lead.
The final period saw Norm Powless come in goal and the continued hot hand of AJ Bucktooth who lead all scorers with a 6 goal – one assist effort. Also adding to the scoring efforts of the Redhawks were Art Powless (0-5), Neal Powless (2-1), Eric Carlsen (1-2), Ed Shenandoah (1-2), Percy Shenandoah (0-3), Murray Stout (2-0), Kevin Powless (1-1), Dave Stout (1-0), Shannon Booth (1-0), and Vernon Abrams (1-0).
Up next for the first place Redhawks; a trip to Niagara to play a strong Hawk team followed by a visit at the outdoor arena at Tonawanda.
