The Onondaga Redhawks started the 2019 season with a 8-6 win over the visiting Newtown Golden Eagles.
Cree Cathers began the 2019 season scoring the first goal of the season with an assist from Brian Phillips Jr. The Newtown Golden Eagles before rookie Leland Powless tied it up at two a piece. Minutes before the close of the first period horn, Newtown struck again to lead at the end of the first period 3-2.
The second period saw the visitors extend their lead to 4-2 before Wade Bucktooth found the back of the net off of a pass from Percy Booth. Lee Nanticoke tied the game at 4 in the closing minutes of the second before the Newtown was able to score again seconds later to take a 5-4 lead at the end of the second period.
The final period saw the Redhawks tie the game early with a goal by Lee Nanticoke from an assist from Wade Bucktooth. Lee was not done as he also scored the next 2 goals (that would be four goals in a row!) to put the Redhawks up to stay at 7-5. The Redhawk defense then began to assert itself on the Golden Eagle shooters led by defenseman Bill O’Brian and netminder Dave Mather. Newtown was able to add one more tally before Cree Cathers ended all scoring to make the scoreboard read 8-6.
