The Pinewoods who were coming off a victory over crosstown rival Newtown were looking to build on their first win. The Pinewoods’ keeper kept the Redhawks at bay through the entire first quarter as the vistors scored twice on Redhawk keeper Ross Bucktooth.
The second period saw great goaltending on both ends as they stopped numerous one on one chances and fast break opportunities. Midway through the second period the visitors added another goal only to find the Redhawks quickly answer with a goal by Andy Spack. The last half saw Pinewoods score one more tally as Redhawks added 3 more for a 5-4 Pinewoods lead heading into the third period .
The Redhawks had to find opportunities to to beat the hot Pinewoods’ keeper. Halfway through the final period they got their chances. Their chance came in the form of man-up opportunities. The 3 man-up chances in the middle of the third period gave the Redhawks a chance to move the ball and Wade Bucktooth was able to capitalize with three third period goals. Soon the Redhawks were up 8-6 with a 2 minutes to go. The Smoke pulled their keeper and with 45 seconds to go scored to bring it to within one. But the ensuing faceoff saw the Redhawks win the draw and finish the scoring at 9-7.
